What is Adult Therapy Like?

Adult therapy sessions provide a private and confidential space where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings, and life experiences. This process allows you to better understand yourself, work through challenges, and create meaningful change. In collaboration with your therapist, you’ll identify areas for growth, set personal goals, and work at your own pace—whether that means one session or many. The ultimate goal is to help you get on (or stay on) the path to living your best life.

How Do I Know If My Child Needs Therapy?

It’s natural to wonder if your child’s behavior is just a phase or something more. Many parents delay seeking help, hoping things will resolve on their own. However, changes in your child’s mood, personality, or behavior—whether sudden or gradual—can be signs that they may benefit from therapy. These changes might result from a traumatic experience, or appear without a clear reason. Either way, they’re important to pay attention to. Under the Services tab, you’ll find a list of signs that may indicate your child or teen could benefit from speaking with a therapist.

What Is Therapy Like for Children?

Therapy for children often focuses on building healthy relationships, strengthening communication, developing coping skills, and learning to manage emotions and behaviors. Working with minors also means involving a parent or caregiver in the process—how much depends on the child’s age, needs, and therapy goals.

Confidentiality is essential to building trust with your child. While we’ll keep you informed about general progress, we won’t disclose session details unless there is a safety concern. If your child is at risk of harm to themselves or others, or if abuse or neglect is suspected, we will notify you immediately. We’re also available to coordinate care with teachers, school counselors, psychiatrists, or other professionals supporting your child.

How Long Are Sessions and How Often Will We Meet?

Sessions typically last 45–50 minutes and are usually held weekly. Frequency and duration may vary depending upon individual therapy for an adult's needs or a child’s progress. For children, weekly sessions at the beginning are recommended to establish a strong therapeutic relationship.

Do You Participate in Legal or Custody Disputes?

No. I do not provide court testimony or psychological assessments for legal purposes, including custody or visitation recommendations. Therapy is based on a foundation of trust and confidentiality, which can be compromised when a therapist is asked to testify or release records. I will only provide documentation or testimony if required by court order.

What Is Your Emergency Policy?

This practice does not provide emergency or crisis services and is not available 24/7. In an emergency, please:

  • Call 911

  • Dial 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (available 24/7)

While I check messages regularly, I may not be immediately available in a crisis situation.
